The art of Erwin Olaf

Picked up the Erwin Olaf monograph published by Aperture. The book is both a tactile and visual pleasure. The images mostly featuring motionless models set among modernist furniture in impeccable compositions and restrained hues. All is shimmering surface, hinting at meaning that may or may not be there. The plasticity of enigmatic emotions revealed perhaps in titles.

A visit to his website brings a wider perspective. From fashions victims dressed only in branded bags, families dressed in full rubber, royalty dressed in blood and clowns dressed in decadence, the worlds created by Olaf are bold, beautiful and bizarre.
